Attempted Vehicle Theft in Dover Township

On 02.13.17 at 2251 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to a residence in the 5200 block of West Canal Road in Dover Township for an attempted vehicle theft.

A witness reported that as he arrived home he observed the door to the vehicle standing open and someone was inside the vehicle.  The person in the vehicle saw the witness and fled the area on foot.  Further investigation found that the keys had been left in the unlocked vehicle and that the ignition to the vehicle was in the “On” position.  The owner’s purse was also removed from the vehicle but was located along the flight path of the thief.  There was no description of the thief.

This incident coincides with several other thefts from vehicles reported in Dover Township.

Residents are reminded to remove their keys from their vehicles, secure all personal belongings, and lock the vehicle doors.
