On 07/27/2010 at 0708 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to a vehicle crash on East Berlin Road(SR234) at Biesecker Road in Jackson Twp.

Investigation found that a 2004 GMC pickup operated by James Nelles, age 65 of Bladensburg, MD, was travelling northbound on Biesecker Road.  The Nelles vehicle was stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of East Berlin Road.  A 2006 Peterbilt tractor trailer operated by Walter Hammond, age 28 of Middletown, VA, was travelling westbound on East Berlin Road.

The Nelles vehicle left its stopped position and pulled into path of the westbound tractor trailer.  The pickup truck struck the trailer of the combination near the wheels.  This impact caused the tractor trailer to travel onto an embankment and overturn.  Neither Nelles or Hammond were injured.

As of 11:00am crews were still on scene attempting to remove the tractor trailer.

The Northern York County Regional Police Department was assisted on scene by the Nashville and Thomasville Volunteer Fire Departments.

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Northern York County Regional Police at 717-292-3647 or use the crime tip reporting section of this website.
