On 06.05.2011 at 1213 hours the Northern York County Regional Police were dispatched to the area of South Mountain Elementary School on South Mountain Road in Franklin Township for a report of a male who had threatened subjects with a handgun.

The investigation into the incident found that William Ray Gore, age 62 of the 100 block of Chestnut Grove Road in Carroll Township had pointed a small handgun at the head of a 23 year old Franklin Township man in the parking lot of the South Mountain Elementary School.

The 23 year old victim and his 22 year old female passenger advised officers that they travelling behind a Rolls Royce on a roadway in Carroll Township.  The Rolls Royce stopped in the middle of the roadway and the victim believed that the car had broken down.  The victim passed the Rolls Royce and continued on the roadway.  The victim and passenger noticed that the Rolls Royce was now tailgating them as they travelled through Dillsburg Borough.  The victim eventually pulled into the parking lot of South Mountain Elementary School and the Rolls Royce followed them into the lot.  A verbal argument ensued and culminated with Gore displaying a handgun and placing the muzzle against the victim’s temple.  The victim reacted by pushing the gun and Gore’s hand away and Gore then punched the victim in the face.  The victim yelled for the passenger to call 911 and Gore got into his vehicle and then drove directly at the victim as the victim was trying to get into his own vehicle.

The victim then followed Gore as he drove back into Dillsburg Borough and parked his vehicle on South Baltimore Street.  Gore was taken into custody without incident in the first block of South Baltimore Street.  A loaded .380 caliber Beretta handgun was recovered from Gore’s 1979 Rolls Royce.  Gore was transported to Central Booking and arraigned on the following charges;

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Simple Assault
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person
  • Terroristic Threats
  • Possession of Weapon on School Property
  • Harassment

The investigation into this incident continues.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Northern York County Regional Police at 717.292.3647 or use the crime tip reporting portion of this website.
