Shooting

On 11.11.2011 at 1426 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to the first block of Laurel Street in North York Borough for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, Officers discovered that 57 year old James Deshields of 18 Woodland View Drive in Manchester Township had a bullet wound to the buttocks.  James Deshields indicated that his 30 year old son Jarrett Deshields had shot him following an arguement.  Jarrett Deshields was to be inside the residence at 40 Laurel Street.  As Officers began to surround the home, Jarrett Deshields called 911 and indicated he wanted to surrender.  Jarrett Deshields exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.

Investigation found that Jarrett Deshields and a friend were assisting Deshields’ mother move back into the residence at 40 Laurel Street.  While this was occurring James Deshields arrived at the residence and began arguing with Jarrett Deshields over a business that Jarrett owns that competes with James Deshields’ business.  During the arguement James Deshields produced a large hunting type knife.  He then began to swing the knife at the 34 year old friend of Jarrett’s.  As this assault was occurring Jarrett Deshields pulled a Ruger 9mm handgun from his waistband and racked the slide of the weapon to load it.  James Deshields saw the weapon and began to flee the residence.  Jarrett Deshields began to chase James Deshields and began firing at him as he fled the residence.  Jarrett Deshields fired at least four shots at James Deshields.  One of the bullets struck James Deshields in the buttocks and the errant rounds struck a nearby vehicle.

James Deshields was treated and released at York Hospital.  He was then transported to Central Booking and arraigned on the following charges;

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Simple Assault
  • Terroristic Threats

Jarrett Deshields age 30 of 1130 West King Street was taken to Central Booking and arraigned on the following charges;
