On 06.08.2012 at 2137 hours the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to 507 Cedar Village Drive for a report of an assault.
A 911 caller reported that she had gone to the residence to check on her friend who had not been to work for several days. The caller reported that she entered the residence to attempt to locate her friend. The caller reported that she found her friend wrapped in a sheet in the master bathroom. While she was checking on her friend a male emerged from the master bedroom covered in blood and told her to leave. The called exited the home and called 911.
Responding officers secured the first floor of the home. A male voice from the second floor indicated he had a gun and would shoot at police officers.
The York County Quick Response Team was summoned to the scene to assist. After more than three hours of negotiation Ross William Crawford age 40, surrendered to police. He was transported to York Hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries.
Investigators located a deceased female, Cherylann Jennifer Dowell age 52, in an upstairs bathroom.
An autopsy was performed on Dowell this morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital. The results of that evaluation are not available at this time.
Ross William Crawford was arraigned at York Hospital on one count of Criminal Homicide. Crawford is still hospitalized as a result of his wounds.
