The Northern York County Regional Police Department received information on scams that are currently being used throughout the area.

  1. A resident of Paradise Township reported receiving a phone call from a lottery company.  The company reported that she had won a considerable prize and that all she needed to do was wire them money to cover the taxes.  The phone number comes back to Jamaica.  The resident identified the call as a scam and called 911.
  2. A resident of Franklin Township reported receiving phone calls from a female with a middle eastern accent.  The female claimed to work for Microsoft and she advised that the resident’s computer was saving information to an offisite location that was not authorized.  The female attempted to convince the resident to allow her to access his computer remotely to fix the problem.  The phone number the female called from is located in New York City.  The resident identified the call as a potential scam and called 911.
  3. A resident of Manchester Township reported receiving a phone call from a subject claiming to be from National Bank.  The subject requested personal and financial information from the resident so that she could be awarded $1000.00 for paying her bills on time.  The phone number the call originated from was unlisted and the resident recognized the potential scam and called 911.

Residents should promptly report activity like this to their local police department whether or not the resident has lost any money or other items as a result of the scam.
