Conewago Township Man Arrested For False Reports and Insurance Fraud

On 04.27.2015 the Northern York County Regional Police Department investigated the theft of a vehicle from a residence in the 800 block of Buck Road in Conewago Township.

The owner reported that his black 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was parked in his driveway as of 1700 hours.  He noticed it missing at approximately 2200 hours.  The owner reported that the keys were in the vehicle and that he also had a handgun in the vehicle.

The gun is a .45 cal/.410 combination manufactured by Bond Arms.  The gun is stainless steel in color with black grips.

UPDATE:

The truck in this incident was recovered on 04.28.2015 in Newberry Township.

The Northern York County Regional Police Department has charged the truck owner, Michael Allen Helsel age 39 in connection with this incident.

Investigators recovered fingerprints from the vehicle that led them to a witness to the incident.  The witness advised that Helsel was driving him home when Helsel drove the truck into a large pile of stones which disabled the vehicle.

Helsel reported the vehicle stolen to the Northern York County Regional Police Department and also filed a claim with his insurance company.

Michael Allen Helsel age 39 of 820 Buck Road in Conewago Township was charged with the following offenses;

  • Insurance Fraud – Felony 3
  • False Reports to Law Enforcement Authorities – Misdemeanor 3
