Chief Mark L. Bentzel is a York County native having been raised on a family farm in Paradise Township. He attended the Spring Grove Area High School, served in the United States Army, and attended York College where he earned an Associates Of Arts Degree. After he was hired as a cadet for the NYCRPD, he attended the Municipal Police Officers Training Academy and while working full time as a police officer, he continued his education and later earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Elizabethtown College. Chief Bentzel is also a graduate of the 177th Session of the FBI National Academy.
During his tenure with the NYCRPD he has served in the Patrol Division and has held various positions within the agency, including the rank of Patrolman, Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and in his most recent rank held the position of Deputy Chief of Police, where he was directly responsible for oversight of the patrol and criminal investigative functions of the agency.
Chief Bentzel is married and resides with his wife and two children. Chief Bentzel is active in many community organizations including his local church and spends much of his leisure time attending high school football, wrestling and track and field events.
