The Northern York County Regional Police Department is warning residents about a scam involving individuals impersonating members of the York County Sheriff’s Department.
Scammers are claiming victims owe money for fines and are demanding payment through gift cards or Bitcoin, often while threatening arrest or other legal consquences.
Police departments, sheriff’s departments, and other law enforcement agencies will not demand payment by gift card, Bitcoin, or other cryptocurrency.
If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact 911 or the Northern York County Regional Police Department Headquarters.
