In July of 2024, the Northern York County Regional Police Department opened an investigation into Byers Tire Sales, located at 6470 Carlisle Rd in Dover Township, York County, PA following several complaints from customers. During the investigation, it was determined that customers fell into two categories: those that paid for tires that they would never receive, and others that would have their debit/credit cards charged several times following past purchases. The investigations also showed that customers filing the complaints had at one point during their experience with Byers Tire Sales, dealt directly with the business owner, Derek Gloster.
The investigation showed that ten victims paid for tires that they never received. The total amount stolen from this group was over $9,000.00.
There were five victims in the second group that had their credit cards charged multiple times for the same purchase. Over $11,000.00 was stolen from this method.
Derek Gloster was charged with Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition of Funds Received, Theft by Unlawful Taking, Receiving Stolen Property, and Access Device Fraud. He was arraigned and posted bail of $15,000.00.
