Residential Structure Fire with Fatality – Conewago Township
Case #2025-018187

On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 9:27 PM, the Northern York County Regional Police Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire with possible entrapment in the 2200 block of Copenhaffer Road, Conewago Township.

Upon arrival, responding officers encountered a fully involved structure fire. Witnesses reported that a male resident and several animals were trapped inside the home. Due to the extent of the fire, rescue efforts were significantly hampered.

Tragically, a 64-year-old male resident perished in the fire. A juvenile resident was transported to UPMC Memorial for treatment of smoke inhalation. Two dogs and several puppies were able to escape the home.

Two additional male residents were not home at the time of the incident and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

More than a dozen fire departments responded to the scene and were able to bring the fire under control within approximately 30 minutes.

The Northern York County Regional Police Department Fire Investigator, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal, is actively investigating the cause of the fire. The York County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
