It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the Northern York County Regional Police Department announces the passing of Officer Matthew Straub, age 55, who courageously battled cancer and passed away on March 22, 2026.
Officer Straub served our department and the communities we protect with honor and dedication for 14 years. Throughout his career, he exemplified the core values of professionalism, integrity, and service above self. His commitment to public safety, his steady presence on patrol, and his willingness to support his fellow officers made a lasting impact on our organization.
More than just a dedicated officer, Matt was a trusted colleague and a friend to many. He brought quiet strength to difficult situations and approached his work with humility and compassion. Whether assisting a community member in need or standing alongside his partners during challenging calls, Officer Straub could always be counted on.
His battle with cancer was fought with the same resilience and determination that defined his career. Even in the face of adversity, he remained steadfast, supported by the love of his family and the respect of those who had the privilege to serve with him.
Officer Straub is survived by his wife, his step-son, and his mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that our community keep his family in their hearts and respect their privacy as they grieve.
The loss of Officer Straub is deeply felt across our department. His service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue through the work we carry forward each day.
Rest in peace, Matt. Your watch has ended, but your impact will endure.
