On 05.28.24 at 4:00 PM the Northern York County Regional Police Department investigated a bicyclist versus a student crash in the 2600 block of W. Canal Rd. in Dover Township. The student had just exited a school bus when he was struck by a passing bicyclist.
The school bus was eastbound on W. Canal Rd. and had stopped with its red lights illuminated and its stop arm activated. The bicyclist was also eastbound on W. Canal Rd. and failed to stop as required for the red lights on a school bus. The student exited the right side of the bus as the bicyclist was overtaking the bus on the right side.
The bicyclist struck the student. The contact knocked the 10 year old boy to the ground. He suffered various scrapes and cuts to his body; he did not need medical attention. The bicyclist was able to stay upright.
A woman who was outside waiting for her child to get off of the bus came rushing to the struck child’s aid. The bicyclist did stop and went to check on the welfare of the child. The struck child was obviously distraught and walked away from the bicyclist. The child that was struck was a student at North Salem Elementary. The bicyclist has not contacted the police, school district, or the bus transportation company to report the crash.
If you can identify the bicyclist, you are asked to contact the Northern York County Regional Police Department at 717.467.TELL (8355) or tips@nycrpd.org. Case# 2024-022879
